Ukrainian Mathematical Bulletin
Dear Reader,
We address our words to everyone who holds this issue in hands, to all mathematicians in Ukraine and abroad.
We are pleased to present the first issue of the journal “Ukrains’kyi Matem- atychnyi Visnyk” (Ukrainian Mathematical Bulletin), the first journal of the Ukrainian Mathematical Society. The aim of this project is to publish original high-quality papers covering all directions of theoretical mathematics as well as surveys giving the state-of-the-art analysis of contemporary scientific problems without size limitations.
It is planned to publish information on the most important events in the life of the Ukrainian Mathematical Society, in particular, talks given at society meetings and devoted to outstanding scientists of the past and to the solution of famous mathematical problems. It is also planned to publish information on the most significant events in the mathematical science all over the world.
The contemporary state of science is marked by broadening of communications between mathematicians of Ukraine and mathematicians of the world. This process is promoted by the Ukrainian Mathematical Society, which is a member of the International Mathematical Union and European Mathematical Society and which has established contacts with many national mathemati- cal societies. International scientific conferences regularly held in Ukraine also contribute to this process. We plan to publish the most significant results communicated at these conferences in our journal.
The journal will be published in two versions. The first version will contain papers in one of the following three languages: Ukrainian, Russian, and English. The second version will contain the same papers all translated into English. We are grateful to the American Mathematical Society, an associate member of which is the Ukrainian Mathematical Society, and personally to Professor John H. Ewing, Executive Director of the American Mathematical Society, for the organization of cooperation between the American Mathematical Society and the Ukrainian Mathematical Society and support in the distribution of the English version of the journal.
Dear Reader, we hope that you took notice of the International Editorial Board joined by prominent mathematicians. We are deeply grateful to Professors M. Atiyah, A. Friedman, O. Martio, B. Bojarskii, M. Lavrentiev, and L. Nirenberg for their active help in the preparation of the journal.
Dear Reader, inviting you to cooperation, we wish you new significant scientific achievements and shall be glad to see you among the contributors to this journal in the nearest future.
